Samburu

Samburu National Reserve

North Kenya

Samburu National Reserve is situated in the Samburu County of northern Kenya. It covers an area of approximately 165 square kilometers (64 square miles). The landscape in Samburu National Reserve is characterized by semi-arid savannah, acacia trees, and the Ewaso Nyiro River, which flows through the reserve. The river serves as a lifeline for the wildlife in the area, attracting animals to its banks during the dry season. Samburu is renowned for its diverse and unique wildlife. Visitors can expect to see species such as the reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx, gerenuk (a long-necked antelope), lions, leopards, and cheetahs, among others. Elephants are also a common sight along the riverbanks. The reserve is a birdwatcher's paradise, with over 450 bird species recorded, including vultures, eagles, hornbills, and many others.
